GICAM
THE GORNA INSTITUTE FOR
THE CREATIVE APPROACH TO MUSIC
The Gorna Institute for the Creative Approach to Music (GICAM) is the music teaching school under the aegis of the SaC charity.
GICAM offers its beneficiaries a number of exciting programmes. The primary function of the Institute is to teach music using the acclaimed Gorna Method (the GM). This is a unique and original system of teaching music in a lively, dynamic and creative way, which bypasses the traditional music notation system and empowers students to be their own creative decision makers. A secondary and most important purpose of the Institute, is research and experimentation on the GM system itself. The fruit of which is fed back into the teaching programmes to further develop its courses and options – much as a university does which runs current lecture series in parallel with research.
GICAM provides members of the community with opportunities to achieve a basic level of performing and appreciation of music through practical application of the Gorna Method. The Gorna Method, initiated in the 90’s, is tried and tested system of teaching/learning music. Hundreds of participants, present and past, can attest to its efficacy and the acquisition of a lifelong treasure. Evidence from past participants is available on request. Some features of the method’s novelty include: an exceptional success rate, inspiration and excitement, acquisition of professional performance skills, speedy high-quality results and neuro-scientific input into the learning experience. The method uses music as a vehicle of self-expression and a means to become more in touch with oneself which in turns helps wellbeing and general fulfilment.
